The English wording starts from the Berean Standard Bible, a modern translation from the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek that its publishers gave to the public domain in 2023. Its New Testament is translated from the standard scholarly Greek text, which is itself built mainly on Sinaiticus and Vaticanus. Its Old Testament is translated from the Masoretic Text.
The ETB then applies the rules above. Verses missing from the earliest manuscripts are removed. Wording is changed where the earliest manuscripts read differently. Passages preserved only in the Dead Sea Scrolls are restored. Every change has a note on the page where it happens, and all of them are collected under Notes.
Where the scrolls survive, most of them agree with the Masoretic Text word for word, so most of the Old Testament reads the same as other Bibles. The ETB changes it only where a scroll preserves a different reading. This is version 0.1: the verse-level changes are complete, but smaller word-by-word differences inside verses have not all been checked against the manuscripts yet. Corrections are welcome.
The ETB is open source and in the public domain. You may copy, print, share, translate and correct it without asking.
